The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA*), was developed to describe the sounds we humans produce when we speak. Each sound corresponds to a place in the mouth and manner of production. The chart is divided into three parts: vowels, dipthongs and consonants. The left would be the front part of the mouth and the right part the back.
